The no. 1 ranked prospect in all of high school basketball, Jonathan Kuminga led the Patrick School to the Union County Championship win against rivalry powerhouse Roselle Catholic with 12 points along with 7 assists.
The Patrick School is now 3-0 vs Roselle Catholic and will see each other again sometime during state playoffs.
Kuminga owns high school basketball rankings and is ranked no. 1 on every platform including ESPN, 24/7 Sports, and Rivals Sports. He is rated a perfect 100 on every platform as a 5-star recruit. Originally from the Republic of Congo, Kuminga’s story to where he is now is nothing ordinary. This past summer he dominated AAU basketball playing for the NY Rens averaging 22.7 points while shooting right around 50 percent. Shortly after, he transferred into the state of New Jersey to The Patrick School for his junior season.
He is currently averaging 17 points for the Patrick School in a well-spread out offense with other talented players.
Kuminga is currently being recruited by every high-major school you can name including Duke, Kentucky, Auburn, etc… What makes Kuminga’s game so special is his insane athleticism at 6’8. He can rebound, block shots, and play exceptional defense which many offensively scoring focused players cannot do. There is no one on the court who can guard him at nearly all times. He is very consistent and we have yet to see him play a bad game. The scariest part about him is that he is only a junior and still is developing to his full potential. There seems to be no ceiling for him as he continues to grow.
Kuminga is already predicted to be the #1 draft pick in the 2022 Draft despite only being a junior. NBA scouts are already watching him as he controls high school basketball.
After the game, Kuminga and the rest of the team were already putting the win behind themselves and looking into their bigger, future goals which include the New Jersey State Title at the Tournament of Champions which is held at Rutgers University.
The Patrick School seems to be the favorite to win the Tournament of Champions and should have no problem getting there. Some other teams to look out for are Rutgers Prep, Elizabeth, Roselle Catholic, Camden, and Saint Benedict’s Prep.
The Patrick School resumes play again on Tuesday against Upper Room Christian as they continue their journey to the top.
