Russell Westbrook was the man behind the mask last night in his return against the Philadelphia 76ers. He made his way back in style, rocking a face mask to protect his cheekbone that he recently got surgery on this past Saturday.  The reigning All-Star MVP played like he didn’t miss a beat recording his 4th straight triple double in an OT victory against the 76ers.  He had a career high with 49 points and 16 rebounds, to go along with his 10 assists.  Russell’s recent play put him into discussion with some of the greats. Since Michael Jordan in 1989, Westbrook is the first to record back to back triple doubles with at least 40 points.

Russell Westbrook’s recent play has surged this Oklahoma City Thunder team with the absence of their former MVP Kevin Durant out with injury.  OKC has won 5 of their last 7 games and has taken the 8th seed in the Western Conference right from the Phoenix Suns. Westbrook has literally put the team on his back, showing true leadership out on the floor and as of late; the new acquisitions of Enis Kanter and DJ Augustine are looking very promising for OKC.

Russell Westbrook is making his case for league MVP and its undeniable.  The question is, can he keep up this level of play when Kevin Durant returns. With a stacked Western Conference and the second half of the season still to go, it will be interesting to see where the Thunder ends up.
