Coming into tonight, there was a tie for 2nd place in Conference USA between Western Kentucky and Louisiana Tech. Both were a game behind North Texas and knew with only a few games left that this was a must win to be able to win the regular season title. Tech led for most of the game, but Taveion Hollingsworth of Western Kentucky had other plans.

Hollingsworth came into the game averaging just over 15 points per game, but wasn’t having the season he was hoping for with regard to how he has been shooting the deep ball (27 3PT%).

Everything changed today though.

Taveion was playing with a different type of fierceness in his game. He was attacking the basket AT WILL which led to him having 19 free throw attempts on the night (He converted 17 of them). Prior to tonight’s game, Taveion Hollingsworth had scored a career high 30 points twice in his career. On this particular night, he hit a new career high of 43 points.

Most of those points, as mentioned, came from the line and late in regulation when they absolutely needed it. He finished with 43 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists on 11/18 shooting from the field and 4/7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Check out how Hollingsworth and his team came up big late in regulation to send the game to OT:

After that UNBELIEVABLE make from Taveion to send the game to OT, Western Kentucky was able to ride their momentum, hit clutch free throws, and get the win over Louisiana Tech 95-91.

Western Kentucky is now in sole place of 2nd in Conference USA and now they are set to face the 1st place North Texas squad on Sunday in a huge battle that you won’t want to miss.
