Brandon Williams

School: Arizona

Year: Freshman

Height/Weight: 6’2, 190

Strengths:

Brandon Williams is a professional scorer who has the ability to not only create his own shot, but also get to his spots to distribute at a high rate as well. His agility when slashing to the basket helps him draw a lot of fouls on opponents when driving to the basket. The California native has shown his active hands in the passing lanes, creating transition baskets. His ball handling is above average, giving him the ability to come off the dribble or drive to finish at the bucket.

Once he gets going his athleticism and sneaky jumping begins to emerge. Williams’s defensive potential and his ability to consistently hit the three point shot makes him a perfect fit for the next level.

Weaknesses:

He tends to make instinctive mistakes on defense at times, falling asleep on a back door cut or over-committing to a pump fake. Tends to defend with his athleticism more than his body which puts him in foul trouble. He’ll also have to continue to move the ball and not resort to one on one play to keep the offense flowing if he plans on playing the point. He’s coming into Arizona after playing on a minutes restriction in High School after a congenital bone issue above his knee. That will have to be monitored and will be a concern until he proves otherwise. Expect his defense to improve the more competition he plays.

Future Outlook:

He ended the preseason on a high note with 23 points on four three pointers (9-16) and three assists. Williams played in his first collegiate regular season game against Houston Baptist and finished with 13 points, five assists, and zero turnovers. He made 8 out of 9 free throws in his first game which is promising given how poor he shot the ball from the field.

Williams will learn how to improve his game for the next level as this season progresses with a talented Arizona team. He will continue to improve as a player all-around the more he is able to improve the little things on defense and put it all together. We will continue to truly see his potential come out as the season progresses and we’ll see if that makes him draft eligible this upcoming Draft.
