After a 19 game winning streak that consisted of going 17-0 through the month of January, as well as a 13 game road winning streak, the Atlanta Hawks hot and stellar play has finally come to and end. Last night, they suffered a 115-100 to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Throughout this streak, they were beating the likes of the Clippers, Trailblazers, Raptors, and Bulls all by comfortable margins. This amazing display of basketball success came from true consistency out of their starting five, especially Kyle Korver. Korver completed the all-time shooting statistic of .523 percent from the floor, .540 percent from three, and .918 percent from the line.

The loss came to a young Pelicans team that was facing off against a tired and exhausted Hawks team. Paul Millsap had this to say to ESPN.com:

“We’ve got a lot of season left,” Millsap said when asked to put the recent winning streak in perspective. “Nineteen games, that’s good. We lost one — 19-1 now. So it’s just regrouping. … We can’t let one loss turn into two losses.”

This loss may come as a blessing in disguise for the Hawks, they needed a reality check and were losing energy to keep this winning streak alive. Expect the Hawks to still continue their stellar play after this loss, as they still own the best record in the league at 40-9.
