The NBA's First Team To 50 Wins

Every NBA season is filled with surprises. The surprise team in the 2014-2015 NBA season has been the Atlanta Hawks. Head coach Mike Budenholzer stresses the idea of teamwork, efficiency, and no need for a star player. The Hawks are second in the NBA in both 3 pt% and assists per game. Players like Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, Paul Millsap, and Al Horford were named Eastern Conference All-Stars when they are not known to be true NBA stars. You guessed it, the first NBA team in the 2014-2015 NBA season to reach 50 wins was the Atlanta Hawks.

After a tough loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Atlanta Hawks hosted the Sacramento Kings. From the start the game was in the Hawks favor. After not playing in Philadelphia, Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver, and DeMarre Carroll combined for 53 points. The rest of the offense exploded drilling 20 three-pointers and scoring 130 points. Both of those numbers are season highs. After the game Paul Millsap said “That’s a great accomplishment…….But the job’s not done.”

This improved the Hawks record to 12-1 at home against the Western Conference. Overall, the Hawks are 30-4 when playing at Phillips Arena. The Hawks are the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference sitting 11 games above the #2 Cleveland Cavaliers. Home court advantage is key in the playoffs. Atlanta is the only NBA team to have clinched a playoff spot. There are 19 more games to be played, Atlanta needs to win eight of them to break the franchise record in wins.

This is the Hawks 12th 50-win season in the franchise history. The Hawks look to improve to 51 wins Wednesday in Denver.

P.S The Spurs were the first to 50 wins last season and they won the NBA title.
