Dennis Scott

The trend of 2016 has been to hate on Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors. Many around the world have participated, including some the best to ever play the game. Oscar Robertson, Walt Frazier, Isiah Thomas, and even Charles Barkley, who you think would’ve learned his lesson the first time. It’s not rare to see people discredit and dislike a player or team that’s at the top of their game. People often hate things they can’t stop or mimic and that seems to be the case with a lot of old time NBA players. One former player by the name of Dennis Scott, actually appreciates what Steph is doing and is coming to his defense.

“They couldn’t do it.  It’s just that simple.”

“That’s why we shooters are not mad at him.”

“We used to say the art of shooting has gone away,” Scott said. “Steph is bringing the jump shot back. Michael Jordan had everybody trying to jump to the rim. The And-1 era had everybody dribbling too much. The point of the game is to put the ball in the hole. And Steph is bringing that back.”

It’s great to hear someone from the past come to Curry’s defense. The slander from the grumpy old men was getting quite old to me. Dennis Scott has that appreciation for the three point shot because he was once, one of the best shooters in the league. But it would be nice to hear more come to his defense because what he’s doing is not easy.

Similar to everything else in the world, the game of basketball is forever evolving. So comparing what’s occurring now to how the game was played decades ago is pointless. If you can’t get with the times and appreciate the game then don’t watch it, it’s that simple. Go watch NBA classics in black and white, while we appreciate Steph Curry launching 3’s from half court in 1080p HD.
