Stars of Day 4
Lonzo Ball – G, UCLA
Statistics: 18 points/9 assists/7 rebounds
The man of the tournament showed us why he’s as hyped as they come. With UCLA struggling against Cincinnati’s tough defense at the half, the star PG took matters into his own hands and controlled the tempo in the 2nd half. Lonzo, the son of the infamous LaVar Ball, finished with an all-around effort to lead UCLA to the Sweet 16. While the UCLA team is stacked, they will only go as far as Lonzo takes them and if this game was any indication, they could go all the way.
Moritz Wagner – F, Michigan
Statistics: 26 points/3 rebounds/2 steals
Moritz Wagner led all players in the game with 26 points to help the 7th seeded Michigan Wolverines upset the 2nd seeded Louisville Cardinals. Often reliant on their guards, Wagner provided timely scoring for the Wolverines finishing around the basket while the senior guard, Derrick Walton Jr. was struggling with his shot. Michigan seems to be riding high with their momentum and a deeper run is not out of the question especially if guys like Wagner provide extra scoring.
Sindarius Thornwell – G, South Carolina
Statistics: 24 points/6 rebounds/5 assists
Thornwell was a big part of South Carolina’s upset win over 2nd seeded Duke. He provided more than scoring, dishing out 5 assists along with 6 rebounds in an impressive 88-81 win over a powerhouse team like Duke. Like Michigan, South Carolina seems to be riding high with momentum now especially with an impressive win like this. South Carolina has a good blend of talent, but Thornwell is the key to their success.
