Chicago Bulls forward Pau Gasol was unable to establish a rhythm on either side of the ball for majority of Tuesday night’s season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he managed to register a key play in the waning moments of the contest to preserve the victory for Chicago.
Gasol, who had numerous defensive gaffes during the 97-95 win, saved the game by blocking LeBron James’ layup attempt with 3.6 seconds left. The Cavaliers tried to inbound the ball to James on the ensuing possession, but it was deflected as a result of Jimmy Butler’s hounding defense.
Gasol didn’t look his best tonight, but he stuck with it and made a huge play when it was needed. He finished the game with 2 points and 6 blocks.
