NBA Player Comparison: Chris Andersen
Willie Cauley-Stein is one of the more athletic centers we have ever seen come out of college. Cauley-Stein will most likely be the first college player drafted that is not in his freshman year. He could go as high as 5 or 6 because of his incredible length, experience, and defensive prowess. It’s hard to find a center who can defend a smaller guard on a switch. Cauley-Stein is that man.
Some question whether Cauley-Stein has the body to play down-low in the NBA, while others are already saying that he can become a $100 million player. Now, that is a bit much as Willie-Cauley Stein has a lot of work to do. He has to get in that weight room and put on some muscle. Hopefully he can fall in the same weight range as DeAndre Jordan, right around 260-265 pounds. Cauley-Stein will get bullied in the post if he doesn’t put on that muscle. The 62% from the free throw line isn’t too bad as many college players struggle from the line, so if he can get that up to 70%, NBA teams will welcome him with open arms.
Chris Andersen has had a huge defensive impact from his time in Denver and now in Miami. He had some big moments in their 2 title runs. Andersen was never the guy who had the stats after the game and usually never got any recognition for his hard work around the NBA, but the team knew of his importance. He was one of the more valuable players on that team. Cauley-Stein can have this same type of impact for an NBA team. He can have even a greater impact if he bulks up and works on a go-to offensive move in the post. Either way, Cauley-Stein is a freak athlete who should see some significant minutes in the NBA during his career.
