Report: Tobias Harris could eye the Knicks in free agency

Since the Orlando Magic and Tobias Harris couldn’t reach an agreement on an extension by the Oct. 31 deadline, Harris will be a restricted free agent this summer. Harris has said that he would like to stay in Orlando, and the Magic are equipped to match any potential offer thrown to him.

Well a confidant of Harris’ told Adam Zagoria of The Knicks Blog (via HoopsHype) that the Long Island native might not be able to turn down an offer from the New York Knicks:

“I’m telling you if the Knicks come at him hard, who wouldn’t want to play for their hometown team?” a Harris confidant told SNY.tv and The Knicks Blog.

The source pointed out that the 6-foot-9 Harris plays well alongside Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. The pair worked out together multiple times this summer at Terminal 23, Anthony’s midtown gym.

“They play well together,” the confidant said. “Carmelo always had him on his team when Kevin Durant came to town and they would win every game.”

There are plenty of names in the free agency pool that the Knicks should and will pursue. Reports have surfaced that New York will target Grizzlies center Marc Gasol concertedly. Young, versatile, developing players like Harris should also be on their radar, particularly with the hometown influence, but more importantly to improve the quality of their assets.

Harris has started the season strong for the Magic, averaging 17.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
