Parker Stewart started his collegiate career at Pitt two years ago. Although he was getting good run time on the court, he just couldn’t find a groove with the team. There were bright spots, including a 23 point performance against Syracuse, but the fit just didn’t seem right. (That had more to do with the team’s quality than anything with Parker)

Now, after a year of sitting out while transferring, Parker Stewart has landed himself at UT-Martin where he can play under head coach Anthony Stewart, his father.

The first 2 games were not the start that he wanted in a new environment, but things certainly changed in their third game against Western Illinois.

Stewart went for 32 points on 10/24 shooting from the field and 6/12 shooting from deep. On top of that, he was able to corral 11 rebounds. The points and rebounds he accumulated last night were both career highs.

Sometimes it takes a little bit of time to get acclimated to a new environment and it’s safe to say that Parker Stewart has grown more comfortable with the new team.

I’m sure he will want to get the FG% closer to 50% during this season, but at the very least, Parker Stewart showed us last night in UT-Martin’s win that he is certainly deserving of our Hidden Gem Hooper award for November 13th’s slate of games.

UT-Martin has a couple big games upcoming against Wichita State (11/16) and Baylor (12/18) so be sure to watch out for Parker Stewart as he continues to cook defenses!
