Dear Young Hooper:

Everybody starts with a dream. Big or small, realistic or unrealistic, short-term or long-term. Dreams are the framework of any life. The basketball world is no different. Trust me…

In the pursuit of said Dream, you’ll encounter many obstacles. Some self-inflicted, some thrown your way by naysayers and deterrents. Push Through.

With that being said, there are many tools you need to carry with you to get to where you wanna get.

They don’t tell you about the grind, the pain, the blood, the tears. The failures… When you see the ones who’ve made it, you only see the positives. You fail to realize how lonely of a trek it is to get to the top, or better yet, NEAR IT…

Billions of people worldwide share the same love of the game. I’m sure you’ve seen the odds by now; the percentages of those who make it. I’m sure you’ve heard a million times to pick a profession that is attainable, stick to school. BLAH BLAH BLAH… Nothing worth having is ever accomplished by playing it safe.

Do you have it in you to tune people out (Family Included)… Are you afraid of the dark? Can you stomach the pain?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, Do me a major favor… Do what I couldn’t do, Push through… For I too had that dream, but I was weak like many before me. I love(d) the game, but I didn’t have enough in me to fight for her time…

It’s a long, long road. But If you believe, stay true to your family, yourself… Anything is truly possible…

-Goodluck
