Being traded could be the best thing for Carmelo Anthony

A report out of Grantland circulated that the New York Knicks are “getting closer” to engaging in trade talks for Carmelo Anthony and no matter how you feel about it, this may be the best thing for Anthony.

Entering his 13th year in the league, Melo is looking to make his comeback after facing a season-ending knee injury last season. The Knicks ended the season with a 17-65 record and took Kristaps Porzingis with the 4th pick in the NBA draft. Although they’ve made a few moves this offseason, it doesn’t seem like enough to make noise in the Eastern Conference.

As he’s reaching the latter stages of his career, Melo’s window for a championship is beginning to dwindle. Carmelo has had a great career, but the only thing that’s missing from his resume is a ring. The best thing for him right no, would be to get traded to a playoff-ready team. In my opinion, he blew a chance when he decided not to go to Chicago or Houston after his free agency tour last summer. However, if the Knicks are truly looking into trading him, then this could be a great opportunity.

There are a few teams that could really use the talent of Carmelo Anthony. Portland, Boston, and Washington are all in dire need of another go-to scorer to boost their offense. Melo has always been known as one of the best scorers in the league and with the right talent around him, he could make some serious noise in the playoffs. Overall, Anthony has had a prominent career, but if he really wants to be considered with the greats, he needs that championship to put a stamp on his legacy.

Being traded might be his best chance for that.
