Warriors assistant head coach Alvin Gentry was hired as the New Orleans Pelicans’ head man late last month, but he was obviously obligated to finish out the remainder of the season with Golden State as they looked to capture their first NBA championship in forty years.
Golden State was able to accomplish that feat by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-97 in Game 6 of the Finals, and a champagne soaked Gentry reveled in the moment by sending an encouraging message to Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis.

The parity of the Western Conference coupled with its competitiveness may make it tough for the Davis and the Pelicans to “come right back here,” but there’s general intrigue about how Gentry’s stylistic change will impact A.D. and New Orleans. The Finals are obviously far-fetched for this current Pelicans group, but Davis must’ve been pretty damn enthused after seeing that clip.
Maybe Gentry’s first order of business will be giving the Pelicans some dunking tips, because even at age 60, he can still (kinda) get up.
