It was December 16th of 2010, AKA my 16th birthday. My brother Todd and I celebrated the day by attending Lower Merion High School’s gym dedication to the legendary Kobe Bryant, and we intended to top it all off by watching the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers battle at the Wells Fargo Center the following night.
We got home from the gym dedication around 10:50, and I immediately darted to my television to watch an entertaining Western Conference showdown between the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets. As soon as I flicked on the TV, I saw a ridiculous high-flying act from J.R. Smith at the end of the first quarter.
Smith casually glided through the air and dropped the anvil on poor Gary Neal. Talk about demoralization.
