Ben Simmons, Timothe Luwawu, and Furkan Korkmaz, not a bad draft at all. The Philadelphia 76ers are heading in the right direction during this rebuild, but they still have some time to go.
From watching him in the Summer League, Ben Simmons looks like the real deal. His court vision is excellent and his jump shot is not as broken as we had thought. He flourishes when the ball is in his hands and that’s is what the plan will be this season.
While Simmons has the ball in his hands, he’ll need some players around him to help out on the offensive end. The most preferable additions would be players on the wings who can shoot very well beyond the arc. One of those players is Jerryd Bayless.
Jerryd Bayless was signed by the Philadelphia 76ers this summer. He will join a very young squad and will most likely immediately be slotted into the starting lineup.
Since the beginning of the summer I’ve always said that I wanted the 76ers to get one player, a guard who could play the 1 or 2 and that has a very good three-point shot. Well, it looks like they found the perfect match.
I’m just speculating at this point, but we might be seeing a starting lineup of this from the 76ers to start the year:
PG-Jerryd Bayless
SG- Nik Stauskas
SF-Robert Covington
PF-Ben Simmons
C-Nerlens Noel
Then, you’d have Jahlil Okafor, T.J. McConnell, Joel Embiid, Timothe Luwawu, and potentially Dario Saric coming off the bench. They can test the waters this year and then evaluate their team once again at the end of the year to see which big men should stick around.
But, back to the lineup. What makes that so good is that Bayless and Covington can be on the wings, Stauskas can run baseline, Noel can be on the block, and Simmons can be the primary ball handler creating for the others.
Now, we have no idea what Coach Brown and the rest of the coaching staff are going to decide to do with the starting lineup, but at the very least, we can rest assured that Jerryd Bayless will be the perfect addition to the 76ers who were in need of a veteran presence and a good shooting option from 3-point range.
