Liberty has now won two straight Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championships since joining this mid-major conference. They finished 30-4 on the year and are led again by senior Caleb Homesley.

If you remember from last season’s NCAA Tournament, Liberty was able to shock the country as a 12th seed and upset Mississippi State in their first game. They were able to make the Round of 32 and give Virginia Tech a true test, but they weren’t able to reach the Sweet 16. This year, that is certainly the goal for this team and if they are going to do it, they are going to need Caleb Homesley to be at his very best.

In the Championship game against Lipscomb, Homesley went for 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists. He was able to show those who haven’t seen much of his game exactly how skilled and intelligent he is. He was showing the ability to make timely cuts, great finishes off of drives, and was hitting shots from clear NBA range:

Most of the damage that Homesley had inflicted on Lipscomb was in the 1st half. By the 2nd half, the game was all but over as Liberty led by 19 at the break.

This season is more interesting than most for Liberty as not only is it the last year for Homesley, Scottie James, and Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz, but it is also a year where there aren’t too many elite teams. Liberty has the star (in Caleb), the talent, and the experience to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament this year.

If you doubt Caleb, then you obviously didn’t watch him last year and he’ll just prove you wrong again this postseason.
