Devin Booker: The next Klay Thompson?

Devin Booker started on the bench this past season, but when he became the full time starter in Phoenix he became an instant threat. In my opinion, his shooting ability and size could make Booker the “next” Klay Thompson.

Booker’s first few months in the NBA were sub-par. In January, Booker’s athleticism took off. He averaged 17.3 points per game in 33.6 minutes per game. He shot 44 percent from the floor, and 35 percent from the three-point-line in his first full month as a starter.

One thing that was concerning for Booker was his three-point percentage, as it dropped every month. Before the All-Star break Booker was shooting 40 percent, post All-Star he shot a mere 28 percent, which is bad for a guy who was strictly known for his shooting ability. In the spirit of Booker preceding the likes of Klay Thompson, fellow basketball society writer (B.J. Boyer) said, “people make that comparison, but Booker has more off the dribble than Klay did coming out of college.”

Booker’s best month came in March where he averaged 22.4 points per game, averaged 4.9 assists per game and shot 43 percent from the field. Booker’s growth this season was tremendous, although he only got the starting job due to injuries to Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight. Booker has put his name in the ring for a starting guard position for the upcoming season, as he made huge strides in his rookie season.

Devin Booker is turning into a big time scorer in the league.
