Video: Ticha Penicheiro, One of the Greatest Passers of All-Time

Being a basketball junkie, I’ve watched a ridiculous amount of games across different platforms. Being a point guard myself in my playing days, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for those who love to get others involved in the action. The WNBA is a very solid league. Despite the low attendance numbers, If you give it a try, you’ll be treated to a version of the game that would certainly make Dr. Naismith proud. As the men’s game dominates the headlines on a regular basis, we try our best to show the ladies some love. The women’s game is deeply rooted in fundamentals, which makes it aesthetically pleasing to any basketball lover.

In the early days of the WNBA, Ticha Penicheiro was the player I was most drawn to because of her crazy 6th sense on the court. Some of the passes she was able to pull off, were very reminiscent of “Pistol” Pete Maravich and Magic Johnson in their primes. The retired Penicheiro is the WNBA’s all-time assists leader with 2599 Dimes to her name. Never a big scoring threat, Penicheiro used her passing ability to help the Monarchs achieve the ultimate goal in 2005, as they won the WNBA Title. Over a 15 year career that saw her suit up for 3 franchises (Sacramento Monarchs, Los Angeles Sparks, and the Chicago Sky) Tina Penicheiro easily cemented her status amongst the league’s elite.
