Five Rookies To Have Success Day One This Coming Season

Some rookies come into the NBA that were drafted high and they’re going to get every opportunity to make their team better. Some rookies won’t have the greatest success in their first season. There are a lot of reasons like the position they got drafted, depth of rotation, and a lot of coaches and veterans simply don’t trust rookies until they prove something and have their trust. Here are five rookies though that will have success day one of their NBA career.

Buddy Hield: New Orleans Pelicans

Buddy is coming off of a fantastic senior season at Oklahoma. Hield is well-situated to make an impact for the New Orleans Pelicans from day one. His numbers were jaw-dropping, especially when you consider that he was attempting 8.7 three-pointers per game. He has a good shot of establishing himself as one of the most impactful rookies in the upcoming season if he can knock down the open shots that his teammates will generate for him while playing solid perimeter defense.

Kris Dunn: Minnesota Timberwolves

Dunn enters the upcoming season as one of the most experienced top prospects in the NBA draft. Dunn came out of the draft as the most polished point guard who can make his presence felt on both ends of the court. Dunn showed all that and more during the Las Vegas Summer League. He will come into training camp with competing with Ricky Rubio. Dunn will get an opportunity though to prove himself as a contributor this upcoming season.

Ben Simmons: Philadelphia Sixers

Simmons will likely be given the keys to the Sixers team to run the offense this coming season. Simmons has a unique ability to see the floor better than some NBA point guards. His size and overall athleticism let him to attack the rim in many different ways. It will be important for the Sixers to put knockdown shooters around him so that his passes become assists rather than missed opportunities.

Brandon Ingram: Los Angeles Lakers

Brandon Ingram has the ideal size for a wing in today’s NBA. He has enough foot speed to match smaller players at the perimeter and bother them with his length. He will use his ridiculous combination of bounce and reach to protect the rim too. His shooting range is also a major point of his upside. With Randle working inside, Ingram can be the complimentary shooter. He may not be the strongest player but it’s not like his body will never fill out with the correct strength training.

Taurean Prince: Atlanta Hawks

With Al Horford now gone someone has to step up. Taurean Prince has a solid pull-up game including solid range from beyond the arc when his shot is falling. He can still help offensively as his NBA career gets underway. Prince is 6’8 and 220 lbs. with a near 7’0 wingspan. He has all the physical tools to be good on defense to go with his aggressive style to cover the perimeter. He’s one of the most NBA-ready wings with his physique and defense.
