Is Kevin Garnett Next to Retire in the NBA?

Kevin Garnett is officially on the clock of when will his NBA career end. With Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan now fully in retirement, Garnett is the next logical aging NBA star to face a decision to play or not in 2016-17 season. If he does decide to come back, the face and heart of the Minnesota Timberwolves will set a record for the longest career of 22 years. Garnett only averaged 3.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in 14.6 minutes, appearing in only 38 games and didn’t appear in any games after Jan. 23 due to injury in his knee.

Garnett is still under contract for $8 million this season and he also has a no trade clause in his contract. It is very unlikely Garnett’s salary is blocking any significant roster move that Minnesota is trying to do this offseason. As we stand today, Kevin Garnett is the only player left actively playing from the NBA draft class of 1995.

I personally don’t want to see Garnett retire, who turned 40 in May and I would love to see him play for one more season with the young upcoming Timberwolves. Garnett is one of those players through out his career that has showed heart and passion on every play. Even though Garnett is 40 years old, he still has value as a defender, rebounder and has veteran smarts for in game situations or off the court. He can still be the mentor on and off the court for the guys in the Timberwolves locker room. The one thing I do understand is if Garnett can’t play and if his mind isn’t right, he should retire.

It will be very tough not seeing him play in the NBA. Garnett is one of those old school heads in the NBA who leaves it all on the court and you can’t forget about his famous trash talking. It is good to see that head coach Tom Thibodeau is giving Garnett time to think about whether to retire or not. If he does retire, Garnett is definitely going to the hall of fame in my book and one of the best power forwards we have seen play.
