VAULT VIDEO: Drop dribble hesitation move

This move is becoming more popular with shifty basketball players today. Guards like Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving use this a lot because it creates momentum for changing directions and speed and it has a sense of unpredictability.

It’s dropping the basketball in front of you almost as a crossover. It works as a crossover because you’re looking to change directions with the basketball, but it’s literally more of a drop. You’ll see us doing a little stutter step in between sometimes, which adds to what makes the move hard to defend. The drop dribble creates that momentum as you go into your lateral move. It’s great to use in transition. Stay quick and stay shifty.
