Two-time Defensive Player of the Year and USA women’s team center Brittney Griner recently claimed that she could beat USA men’s team big man DeMarcus Cousins one-on-one. Players on from the Men’s and Women’s USA Basketball team made their predictions. Diana Taurasi has her money on her teammate, as do Draymond Green and Kevin Durant. Women’s team head coach Geno Auriemma is ready to put his entire life on Cousins.

They might just have the chance to settle this in Rio once Olympic competition is done. Griner sounds awfully confident in herself. If she’s dealing with a serious Boogie Cousins, she’s going to have a really, really hard time. It’s likely more of a running joke between friends. Griner is trolling Cousins on her Instagram about getting a “whooping”:

Griner first challenged Cousins when she told Sam Amick of USA TODAY that if she went up against NBA talent, that’s who she’d want to play:

“I would love to just go out there and play against [Cousins],” said Griner, who has never played against NBA talent. “We talk a lot of crap to each other. I love talking to him. He’s really funny. I would love to just go out there and play against him.” […]

Cousins on Griner:

“It’s almost like we’re the same person. As soon as I walk in the door, she’s at me. She says I’m a bum. She says she’ll kick my butt. It’s all in fun. She’s an incredible competitor. She’s an incredible player. It’s fun to be around the ladies and get to know them.”

If both teams take care of business and win gold, this should be the USA Basketball parting gift to fans on social media before leaving Rio.
