J.J. Hickson suspended 5 games for violation of NBA's drug policy

0

hickson-aclJ.J. Hickson will be suspended for five games.

According to Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post, the NBA has suspended Nuggets forward J.J. Hickson five games for violating the league’s drug policy. The exact reasoning for Hickson’s suspension is unknown, but a five game suspension typically signals a third positive test for marijuana.

Hickson’s suspension goes into effect on October 29th, the date of Denver’s season opener. Hickson will miss games against Detroit, Oklahoma City, Sacramento and Cleveland.

J.J. Hickson averaged 11.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game last year for Denver, but an ACL injury ended his season early. Hickson continues to recover from the injury, but it was expected that he’d be ready for opening night.

Jordan Crawford Signs Deal To Play In China

0

Jordan Crawford has decided to sign a deal with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in China after not receiving any training camp contract offers.

Jordan_Crawford

According to sportando.com, Crawford has signed a deal that could be worth $2 million for just this upcoming season. This one year deal will keep his options open for seasons afterwards as the CBA does not allow NBA opt-out provisions in their contracts. The earliest a team can sign Crawford is the middle of March to the middle of April.

Jordan Crawford averaged 11 points and 3.5 assists per game while playing for both Boston and Golden State this past season. The main reason the undersized guard didn’t find an NBA team is how much he gives up on defense. Crawford has proven he can score, but he lacks so much on the defensive side of the ball that the negatives outweigh the positives. This past season he had a horrible 109 defensive rating. Maybe playing a year in China will help him focus more on becoming a better defender.

118IYd.St.56Beasley will reportedly work out for the Spurs.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, free agent forward Michael Beasley is set to work out with the San Antonio Spurs this week. His workout will take place at the Spurs practice facility.

Beasley is looking to secure a spot on any NBA roster, and worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers twice this summer.

Beasley was the 2nd overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, but his off-court antics have prevented him from blossoming into a star. Beasley played for the Miami Heat last season, appearing in 55 games for the club. He found himself out of the rotation when the postseason rolled around.

Beasley has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns in addition to the Miami Heat. He averages 13.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for his career, and averaged 19.2 points per game with Minnesota during the 2010-11 season.

San Antonio currently has 14 guaranteed contracts on their roster.

VIDEO: Charles Barkley throws horrible first pitch at Chicago Cubs game

State Farm All-Star Saturday Night - NBA All-Star Weekend 2014Barkley threw out a “turrible” first pitch.

Prior to the Cincinnati Reds-Chicago Cubs game on Tuesday, NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Wrigley Field. You can watch Barkley’s hilarious fling below.

Barkley’s trip to the mound is sure to make an appearance on “Shaqtin’ A Fool” this upcoming season, as he failed to come close to reaching the strike zone. Although the former Philadelphia 76er struggled to throw a stellar pitch, it wasn’t horrendous as some other tosses we’ve seen this summer. Barkley even poked some fun at himself afterwards.

Paul George overrated Pacers NBA playoffsPaul George had his home broken into last April.

According to the Associated Press, police have arrested the man who burglarized the home of Indiana Pacers star Paul George. George’s home was broken into back in April, during Game 5 of the Pacers first round series against the Atlanta Hawks. The intruder took over $16,000 in possessions, including George’s All-Star ring.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the April burglary at the Indianapolis home of Indiana Pacers star Paul George.

Indianapolis police say 43-year-old Michael Lewis of Whitestown was arrested Wednesday on burglary and theft charges for the April 28 break-in during which George’s platinum All-Star ring valued at $15,000 was taken.

Police say detectives believe the burglary was random act and that Lewis didn’t specifically target George’s home, which is on the city’s northeast side.

Police say none of the stolen items have been recovered, and the perpetrator was jailed Wednesday morning.

Paul George continues to recover from the gruesome leg injury he suffered during a Team USA exhibition game in August. He is expected to miss the entire 2014-15 NBA season.

Lionel Hollins: Kevin Garnett will start at power forward for Nets

0

iKevin Garnett will be Brooklyn’s starting power forward to begin the year.

While at Deron Williams’ dodgeball event on Monday, Brooklyn Nets head coach Lionel Hollins told reporters that veteran big man Kevin Garnett will be the Nets starting power forward when Brooklyn opens the season against the Boston Celtics on October 29th.

Hollins: He’s earned the right to have that opportunity to be the starter from day one. If somebody else would knock him out, it’s got to be like a heavyweight fight. If he’s healthy and producing, he’s going to play. How many minutes, I don’t know. But he’s not going to play 15 or 16 minutes, I can guarantee you that. If he’s playing and he’s starting, he’s going to be out there.

Garnett’s first year with Brooklyn was abysmal, as fans saw his ability to greatly impact a game wane significantly. Garnett averaged a career low 6.5 points per game last season, and grabbed only 6.6 rebounds per contest.

Kevin Garnett averages 18.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game for his career. This season is the last on Garnett’s current contract, and it is believed that he will retire when the season concludes.

Clippers Add Australian Swingman Joe Ingles

0

The Los Angeles Clippers and Joe Ingles agreed to terms on a one-year contract on Monday.

joe-ingles-london-olympics

Joe Ingles was garnering the attention of many NBA teams after his solid play at the FIBA World Cup in Spain. The Clippers became the lucky team to land him on Monday. Los Angeles has been looking to improve their small forward position and they think that Ingles could be the solution. Joe Ingles averaged 11.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game at the World Cup.

This signing pushes the Clippers roster count to 15 players. The players battling for playing time at the small forward position with Ingles are Matt Barnes, Reggie Bullock, and Chris Douglas-Roberts. Ingles could be the most efficient out of that group of players as he went for a 69.7% field goal percentage during the World Cup. Regardless of how well Ingles played in Spain, he is going to have to prove himself during training camp to get some minutes on a very good Clippers team.

Hornets coach Steve Clifford: Al Jefferson is pain free

0

iAl Jefferson is finally healthy.

According to Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford, big man Al Jefferson has fully recovered from the plantar fascia tear he sustained during Charlotte’s first round playoff series against the Miami Heat. Jefferson suffered the injury in game one of the series.

Al gave a valiant effort and continued to play through the injury, but every stagger became more and more painful for the former Boston Celtic. The injury forced to Jefferson sit out game four of the first round matchup, and Charlotte’s surprising season ended in somber fashion.

Q. Any concerns about Al Jefferson’s foot after the plantar fascia injury in the playoffs?

A. He’s here doing all the (voluntary) workouts. He’s had no pain, no restrictions.

Having Jefferson healthy is imperative for the Hornets as they look to continue their ascension to the top of the Eastern Conference. Charlotte has done an excellent job of bolstering their roster this offseason, adding Marvin Williams, Brian Roberts and making a big splash by signing Lance Stephenson. Add in a fully healthy Jefferson, and you have a team capable of grabbing home court in the first round of this years postseason.

Al Jefferson averaged 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game last year for the Charlotte Hornets.
