According to WCNC.com, Charlotte Hornets forward Jeff Taylor was arrested Thursday morning in Michigan on domestic assault charges. Taylor was placed under arrest at the Lansing Marriott at University Place around 1 a.m. Taylor is being charged with domestic assault, assault and malicious destruction of property. Taylor is facing up to a year in jail.

Taylor pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his bond was set at $5,000.

Police report that Taylor assaulted his girlfriend, a Michigan State University student, and a hotel employee at the Marriott. It is reported that Taylor caused between $200 and $1,000 in damage to the hotel. Taylor is expected to appear in court on October 8th for a pre-trial hearing.

On Friday afternoon, the Charlotte Hornets issued a statement regarding the incident.

We have informed Jeffery Taylor that effective immediately he will not be participating in any team-related activities while the NBA is investigating his conduct in this matter. As an organization, we understand and appreciate the seriousness of this matter, and will assist the NBA and law enforcement in any way we can until this comes to an acceptable resolution. We have spoken with Jeffery and his representatives and they fully understand our position.

Jeff Taylor appeared in 26 games for the Charlotte Hornets last season, averaging 8.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Taylor’s season was cut short after he ruptured his achilles tendon during Charlotte’s game against the Detroit Pistons in December.

Kendrick Perkins has strained quad, will miss some of training camp

hi-res-Preview_crop_northKendrick Perkins will miss some of the Thunder’s training camp.

According to Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti, Thunder center Kendrick Perkins will miss some of OKC’s training camp as he continues to recover from a strained quadricep. Perkins will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Perkins is on the last year of his contract, and the 11 year veteran is slated to make $9.4 million this upcoming season. The offensively challenged Perkins was viewed as a likely candidate to fall victim to the amnesty clause, but Presti has dismissed that notion repeatedly.

Perkins hopes to return from injury immediately and make a significant impact as reserve big man Steven Adams is poised to take his starting spot.

Kendrick Perkins, 29, averaged 3.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last year for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Phoenix Suns sign Zoran Dragic for 2 years, $3.5 million

Zoran-Dragic-e1410351483959Zoran Dragic will be joining his brother Goran in Phoenix.

According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com, the Phoenix Suns have agreed to a two-year, $3.5 million deal with guard Zoran Dragic, brother of current Suns guard Goran Dragic. Stein also reports that Zoran’s deal is fully guaranteed and contains no options. Rafael Molina Guerra of La Opinion de Malaga reports that Dragic will be bought out for $1 million.

After an impressive showing in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, Dragic had been courted by the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings, but Phoenix was always presumed to be the frontrunner in landing the Slovenian guard. Dragic may find difficulties cracking Phoenix’s rotation, but he will provide the Suns with some nice depth and creative scoring ability.

Phoenix has spent the off-season stockpiling guards, as they selected Syracuse guard Tyler Ennis with the 18th pick in the NBA Draft, signed free agent Isaiah Thomas, and agreed to an extension with restricted free agent Eric Bledsoe. The Suns also still have second year guard Archie Goodwin on their roster as well.

Zoran Dragic, 25, spent the 2013-14 season in Spain, averaging 10.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. During the 2014 FIBA World Cup, Dragic averaged 12.9 points per game on 50% shooting from the field and 43% from three.

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer wants team to stop using Apple products

19c53a8ee0b2d893ac34aab1e48b417f_crop_northBallmer wants the Clippers to do away with iPads and other Apple products.

During an interview with Mary Milliken and Eric Kelsey of Reuters, Los Angeles Clippers owner and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer stated that the Clippers will ditch iPads, as he doesn’t want the franchise using any Apple products.

Ballmer left the board of Microsoft last month but is still the largest individual shareholder, with about 4 percent of the company worth $15.7 billion.

It should come as no surprise, then, that the Clippers will be a Microsoft organization. The son of a Ford Motor Co manager, he’s always been a company and product loyalist, banning his own family from using Apple’s iPhones.

“Most of the Clippers on are Windows, some of the players and coaches are not,” Ballmer said.

“And Doc kind of knows that’s a project. It’s one of the first things he said to me: ‘We are probably going to get rid of these iPads, aren’t we?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, we probably are.’ But I promised we would do it during the off-season.”

Ballmer was the CEO of Microsoft from 2000-2014. Although his ties with the corporation may be severed, he still remains loyal and wants wholesale technological changes within the Clipper franchise.

Steve Ballmer officially became the Clippers owner on August 12th, after his bid of $2 billion was approved by the NBA.

Lakers sign free agent guard Ronnie Price

0

NBA: Milwaukee Bucks at Orlando MagicRonnie Price hopes to make the Lakers roster as a backup point guard.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Lakers announced the signing of free agent point guard Ronnie Price. Sam Amick of USA Today reports that Price’s deal is for one year at the veterans minimum.

The 31-year-old Price will provide Los Angeles with insurance at the point guard position. He will sit behind Steve Nash and Jeremy Lin on the depth chart, but Nash’s inability to stay healthy may open up a window of opportunity for the 9 year veteran. Recent reports indicate that Nash’s nerve issues have improved over the summer months, but it will be interesting to see how Nash’s body responds to the rigorous NBA schedule. Price may battle rookie Jordan Clarkson for minutes as well.

The Lakers are Price’s sixth team in 10 years, and it’s the fourth straight year he will be joining a new club. Price appeared in 31 games last year for the Orlando Magic, averaging 2.4 points and 2.1 assists per game. In addition to Orlando, Price has played for the Sacramento Kings, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns and Portland Trailblazers. Price played with Lakers power forward Carlos Boozer in Utah from 2007-2010.

Ronnie Price averages 3.4 points and 1.5 assists per game for his career.

Sources: Suns And Eric Bledsoe Reach Agreement

0

According to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, the Phoenix Suns and Eric Bledsoe have agreed on a 5-year, $70 million extension.

Bledsoe

Wednesday evening the Suns and Bledsoe got together to hash out a deal. It looks like the meeting worked out for both parties with the news about the agreement coming out. It looks like Minnesota lost out on a big pick up, especially with all these stories coming out that Rubio might want to leave. The Suns will now have Goran Dragic, Isaiah Thomas, and Eric Bledsoe all under contract for the upcoming season. The 5-year deal that Bledsoe agreed to does not contain any options, it’s just a straight 5-year contract. The money may not have been all the way up to the max deal Bledsoe was seeking, but he would be crazy to let this deal slide.

Eric Bledsoe averaged 17.7 points and 5.5 assists over the 43 games he played last season. The interesting story now is how will they go about distributing minutes between all three guards.

Sources: Hasheem Thabeet Headed To Detroit

According to Marc Stein, ESPN sources say that 7-foot-3 center and former no. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet will be signing a non-guaranteed contract with the Detroit Pistons, making him part of their training camp roster.

The 27-year-old Thabeet spent his last two seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played in only 23 games for the Thunder last season. Thabeet was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this month for trade exception and luxury tax intent.

Thabeet will have a tough time making Stan Van Gundy’s roster with the bigs on hand in Detroit. In five seasons he has yet to make a productive stand in the NBA. He could end up back in the D-League whether Detroit hangs onto him or not.

Steve Nash's Nerve Issue Has Reportedly Improved This Summer

Steve Nash’s Nerve Issue Has Reportedly Improved This Summer

The last few years have been difficult for veteran Steve Nash to put together a complete and healthy season. The 40-year-old suffered a broken leg as a result of a nerve issue that held him to just 15 games with the Lakers last season.

According to early reports via Mike Trudell of Lakers.com, Nash has looked good physically in scrimmages,

Consistent word from last several weeks has been how good Nash has looked in scrimmages. Really does change dynamic of LAL if he’s healthy.

The thing that’s kept Nash down for 2 years is the nerve issue (result of broken leg). Word is that’s the issue that’s improved this summer.

The Lakers signed Jeremy Lin this summer as another point guard, assuming they would at least like for him to split time with Nash. The problem is the unpredictability of Nash’s body tenure. Having his effectiveness at least on hand is important for a Laker team that needs extreme production from all of it’s parts to compete in the conference this season.

Derrick Rose donating $1 million to after-school program in Chicago

derrick_rose_60Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose gives back to the community in a big way.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Chicago Bulls announced that point guard Derrick Rose is donating $1 million to “After School Matters,” a Chicago-founded non-profit organization focused on providing teenagers with with after-school activities and programs. Here’s more on Rose’s kind gesture.

Rose is donating $1-million to After School Matters, a Chicago-based non-profit organization devoted to providing innovative out-of-school programs for teenagers. The teen population that After School Matters serves is almost entirely minority and living at or below the poverty level.

“To have a strong community of people who believe in your potential can make all the difference in the world,” said Rose, a native of Englewood, who is a point guard for the Chicago Bulls. “So many people have invested in me and I want to do the same for Chicago’s teens.”

The funds will be used to drive the growth of unique programming experiences for teenagers throughout the city in the arts, communications, science, sports and technology. Participants develop critical life skills to help them prepare for work, college and beyond. Last year the organization created thousands of opportunities for teens, all with stipends attached, according to E. Robbie Robinson, Vice Chair of After School Matters Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the organization’s 2014 Annual Gala, and a Managing Director at Chicago-based BDT & Company.

“Derrick’s significant contribution is making a tremendous statement to Chicago that our teens do matter,” said Robinson. “We are grateful for Derrick’s generosity, as we work hard to provide a safe and productive environment for teens to learn and explore their interests outside of the classroom. We look forward to partnering with Derrick and the Rose family to continue to expand our programs and reach even more of teens for many years to come.”

“My message to our kids is simple – you matter, you deserve every opportunity in life, and you can and should dream big because dreams can come true,” said Rose.

Major respect to Derrick Rose, as he’s looking to help teens maximize their potential. Guidance is important, and Rose may be the perfect person to help steer these kids in the right direction.

Reports: Eric Bledsoe, Phoenix Suns making progress in contract discussions

0

c6b0f6bc5f579dd04b7d15ec4ae0a7de_crop_northEric Bledsoe and the Phoenix Suns have made progress in contract talks.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, restricted free agent Eric Bledsoe and the Phoenix Suns have “progressed significantly” in contract talks, and the two sides hope to reach an agreement on an extension before the start of training camp.

Wojnarowski describes Wednesday as “crucial in the push for the sides to finalize a deal,” after Suns GM Ryan McDonough and Bledsoe’s reps Klutch Sports used the past several days to gather momentum in discussions.

Bledsoe wasn’t too fond of the four-year, $48 million deal offered by Phoenix earlier this summer, as the former Kentucky Wildcat is seeking a five-year, $85 million max contract. Unwilling to negotiate all summer, Bledsoe has softened his stance as the NBA season comes closer.

It was reported last week that the Minnesota Timberwolves were trying to snatch Bledsoe away from Phoenix via sign and trade, but the T’Wolves were rebuffed by the Suns.

Sources indicate that Phoenix’s initial four-year, $48 million offer may be dipping into the $50 million range. It was believed that Bledsoe would sign a $3.7 million qualifying offer with Phoenix, which would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Eric Bledsoe had his best season as a pro last year, averaging 17.7 points, 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game for Phoenix. He missed half the year due to knee surgery to repair his torn meniscus.

To prepare for Bledsoe’s possible departure, Phoenix drafted guard Tyler Ennis from Syracuse, and signed former Sacramento Kings guard Isaiah Thomas.
