Mike Conley is the guy for San Antonio

After getting bounced out of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs have some decisions to make in this upcoming off-season. The future is undecided for some of the Spurs veterans like Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli, and Tim Duncan but whether they stay or retire will play a huge factor in how the Spurs make some of their decisions this summer. One guy that I would love to see in a Spurs jersey come next season is Mike Conley. He will be an unrestricted free agent and even though he’s stated that he wants to return to the Memphis Grizzlies, the San Antonio Spurs might be a place that he strongly wants to consider.

Memphis is his home and a place that he’s played since coming into the league. He wants the Grizzlies to be a contender if he stays which is the stipulation he introduced to the Memphis organization but why not go to a team that’s already in contention? The San Antonio Spurs were second in the Western Conference with a record of 67-15.

Conley would be a big splash for the Spurs who always seem to make the right decisions in free agency and a big upgrade from a slowly diminishing Tony Parker. Don’t get me wrong, Parker is a great player but he’s obviously not the 20 and 7 guy that he once was. Conley, who’s well in his prime after 8 seasons in the NBA, could be the third addition to a new “Big Three” down in Texas. Alongside Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge, I truly believe these three guys could be a force to reckon with. Conley is a system guy who can run their offense but has the ability to knock down open shots and get his own when necessary. More additions would still need to be made such as more athleticism and more depth but that would just be small cogs in a well rounded, experienced team if they were able to land Mike Conley.
