Fun With Numbers: Kevin Durant’s Continued Excellence

Earlier this year, I wrote about Kevin Durant’s exceptional start. It was hard to determine whether or not Durant would be able to sustain such incredible production. Most would even doubt it.

Now, KD is showing us why there was no need to have any doubt.

Kevin Durant is having a fantastic month of January thus far. Only 2 players have ever averaged over 25 points per game in the month of January while holding a 50/45/90 percentage line from the field, three point-range, and the foul line respectfully. The 2 were Dirk Nowitzki, in 2007, and Kendall Gill, in 1997.

In 2007, Dirk averaged 28.7 points per game while, in 1997, Gill averaged 26.1.

Durant, in this month of January, is averaging 27.7 points per game while shooting 52.8% from the field, 45.5% from 3, and 92.5% from the line.

KD is, for some reason, not being as respected as he should be this season. Could it be because of Russell Westbrook’s fine season as well? Maybe. But, at the very least, in time, we have to assume that Kevin Durant will gain the respect he warrants.
