Buzz Williams has really worked hard on helping make Virginia Tech a contender within the ACC and nationally. Williams has always had the reputation of being a relentless recruiter. He and his staff have always had the ability to genuinely connect with recruits making them feel comfortable wherever he has been the head man. Virginia Tech has the potential to make some noise nationally with landing a possible top 10 recruiting class for 2018.

A source informed me that Virginia Tech’s three main targets for the Class of 2018 are: 6’7″ 215lbs Wing Landers Nolley, 6’4″ 190lbs Combo Guard David Duke Jr, and 6’9″ 215lbs Power Forward Jake Forrester.

Landers Nolley has made Virginia Tech one of his five official visits. He also has put Virginia Tech in his Elite 8 of his infamous Basketball Society recruiting bracket. Landers had a huge summer with Team Loaded NC even drawing comparisons to Devin Booker with his shot making ability. Landers is essentially a big versatile guard who can easily play the 2 and 3 along with playing the point if needed.

On August 14th, David Duke Jr., released his top 5 via Twitter with Virginia Tech being one of them.  David is a Combo Guard who would give Virginia Tech a lead guard with size who can penetrate at will as well as being a solid defender who plays passing lanes well.

Jake Forrester last month put Virginia Tech in his top 5 as well. Jake is a Power Forward who can stretch the floor and has the potential to be a solid rim protector with athleticism. He’s a guy who would be key in helping Virginia Tech win on the glass in the future. 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictor has Virginia Tech with a 100% chance to land the 6’9″ Forward.

I personally believe that Virginia Tech could be at the top of the list for Landers Nolley and if not it is definitely a school high up there on his list. All there off these top 150 recruits will be at Virginia Tech September 30th for an official visit as they will attend the Virginia Tech vs Clemson football game in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The scary thought is that once all three sit down and talk, they can realize how all of them can be on the court at the same time while being productive. David Duke Jr could play the point with Landers at the 2 or 3 and Jake playing the 4 spot. With David’s penetrating ability it could lead to a lot of open perimeter shots for Landers and Jake. Since David and Landers are versatile guards, it would allow the Virginia Tech staff to mix and match their guards with keeping the two on the floor together. Jake is a matchup nightmare allowing Virginia Tech to have someone to feed into the post as well as stretch the floor like he can. This would allow Buzz to really have some flexibility when calling plays offensively.

The three seem to be a great fit together and would create the conversation for Virginia Tech to have a top 10 recruiting class for 2018. If Virginia Tech can land all three, it would allow them to compete at a high level in the ACC. It will be interesting to see how the official visit on September 30th goes with all three being on campus. We at Basketball Society will keep you updated with the potential of Virginia Tech having a monster 2018 recruiting class.
