Dejounte Murray of the University of Washington Huskies officially declared for the NBA Draft last week. Signing with LeBron James and Rich Paul’s Klutch Sports Group eliminates the prospect of Murray returning to Seattle for his sophomore year of school. Granted, the Pac-12 has long been the neglected power conference when it comes to College Hoops, Murray can flat out ball. Coming from Seattle’s South End, home to NBA lifers such as: Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Terrence Williams to name a few, Murray has long been prepped for this moment. The connections to Jamal Crawford are vast. For starters, both Murray and Crawford are rangy 6’5 combo guards with handle and an innate ability to put the ball in the hoop. Secondly, Murray is a product of Rainier Beach High School, who’s court is named after who?? You guessed it… Jamal Crawford.

Washington didn’t have the season many have grown to expect from the Pacific Northwest Powerhouse. The huskies missed the tournament, which would’ve given the majority of the country a chance to see Murray in action for at least one game. Murray and the Huskies settled for the NIT, where they were bounced by San Diego State in the second round, effectively ending Dejounte Murray’s college career. If you know anything about Seattle/Tacoma guards, they ooze confidence. All of them seem to play with the same chip on their shoulders, displaying various abilities to score. From Isaiah Thomas, Tony Wroten to even Rodney Stuckey, Washington State has produced alot of guys who make a living in the league by scoring. Expect the same from Murray. He’ll certainly need to add some muscle to his skinny 6’5, 170 lb frame. If he goes to a team with the right structure to help him grow, expect him to become a solid contributor for years to come. Having access to mentors such as Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, and now LeBron James won’t hurt either.
