Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green balled out over the holiday weekend, notching triple-doubles in consecutive games, becoming the first Warrior to accomplish that feat since Wilt Chamberlain in 1964.

In Friday night’s 135-116 shellacking of the Phoenix Suns, Green dropped 14 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds as he and Stephen Curry took turns torturing Phoenix.

Green followed up Friday’s performance with another all-around effort in a lopsided 120-101 win over the Sacramento Kings. Green tallied 13 points, 12 assists, 11 rebounds, and even added four blocks.

The fact that Green went from a seldom-used second round pick to the starting four-man on a championship team and Defensive Player of the Year is not only a testament of his work ethic and versatility, but also to the maturation his game underwent at Michigan State.

In an era in which college serves as a one-year pitstop for NBA hopefuls who can no longer make the high school-to-pros leap, Green’s full four-year college tenure proved to be one of an outlier, and his decision to stay for the duration has helped him to become who he is on the court in the Association. Tom Izzo did an exceptional job in coaching Green, and it shows in the way he plays.

Apparently Green knows this as well, because he hooked his former coach up with some real nice bling just this past week. Spartans for Life as he likes to say.
