Last night was a big night for Boogie Cousins as he scored 55 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Sacramento Kings to a 126-121 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Cousins had his full arsenal on display last night as he got buckets in multiple ways. He shot an efficient 5 for 8 from beyond the arc, using the pick and pop to his advantage. And overall, he was 17-28 from the field while also shooting  16-17 from the free-throw line.

17 of his 55 points came in the fourth quarter when they mattered most. The versatility and strength of DeMarcus Cousins gave him a huge advantage over Portland’s big men all game. He was 1 point shy of his career high but this performance put him in Sacramento Kings history yet again.

Even with such a great performance, his production was overlooked once again due to controversy. Coming into the game, DeMarcus Cousins was fined earlier that day for a previous altercation that was caught on camera with a news reporter. And with about a minute left in the game, after powering in a basket over Miles Plumlee for an and-one, Cousins was voicing his expression towards the Portland bench which led to his mouth piece falling out.

The referees gave him a technical foul which was his second of the night and that led to an ejection. But after coming together and talking about the incident, the referees decided it wasn’t intentional and allowed Cousins to come back into the game. This led to a very frustrated Cousins who expressed his displeasure during his post game interview:

“It’s ridiculous. It’s obvious what’s being done out here, on a nightly basis… I hope the world can see now what’s going on.”

DeMarcus Cousins wasn’t happy as he believes he’s being targeted night in and night out. But after watching the playback of the situation, he understood how his actions may have looked intentional:

“I can see why people could be mad,” he said. “I was just talking to the bench and it came out. No intent. I would never spit on anybody. I’m not like that.”

Even with all of the hoopla that surrounded this remarkable performance last night, DeMarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings still got the job done. Cousins had another career night and showed why he’s one of, if not the best center in the NBA today.
