Steve Kerr picked Damian Lillard as his early choice for MVP this season. Damian Lillard himself said he wanted to be MVP this year and he made that well known on opening night. The Portland Trail Blazers got their first win of the season against the Utah Jazz with a 113-104 victory.

Lillard was hitting from all parts of the court as he dropped 39 points on an efficient 13 for 20 shooting. He also grabbed 9 rebounds and dropped 6 dimes as well. His presence was felt out on the floor and the Utah Jazz just didn’t seem to have an answer for him. He had help from his right-hand man in CJ McCollum who dropped 25 points and they got a healthy 18 points off the bench from Allen Crabbe, who is expected to have a big season this year.

The Jazz fought back as hard as they could as they got solid production from a few of their guys. Joe Johnson had 29 points of his own while Rodney Hood had 26 as well but it just wasn’t enough to overcome Lillard and the Trail Blazers.
