Buddy Hield and the Oklahoma Sooners are headed to the Sweet 16 after a monstrous 36-point performance (including 29 in the second half) from Hield, the kid who’s a consensus lottery-pick going into June’s NBA Draft.

Hield nailed five three-pointers in the second half of OU’s 85-81 victory, and with each basket he further cemented himself as legitimate candidate to capture the Wooden Player of the Year Award.

Hield was serenaded with “BUD-DY, BUD-DY” chants by the Oklahoma fans in attendance, and now he and the Sooners eye the University of Northern Iowa, a team that has been a proponent of upsets so far in this tournament as they’ve upended  both #6 Texas and #3 Texas A&M. #3 Texas A&M, a formidable foe for Hield and the #2 Sooners.

If Hield can continue this type of production throughout the remainder of the tournament, a Final Four appearance may be in the cards for Oklahoma and Hield may propel himself to superstar status if he hasn’t already. Play like this, at this stage, warrants a lot of attention, and another dominant outing such as Hield’s on Sunday could make him a household name and even better: a top-five draft pick come summertime.
