The Houston Rockets renounced their rights to Donatas Motiejunas making him an unrestricted free agent. The Brooklyn Nets offered Motiejunas a four-year offer sheet, but since the Rockets matched it, Motiejunas can’t be signed or traded to the Nets for at least one calendar year, according to the CBA. Motiejunas brings value to teams as a big man who can stretch the floor. Now that the Nets and Rockets are out on Motiejunas, which teams could be interested?

Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have one of the most productive frontcourts in the NBA. Behind Paul Millsap and Dwight Howard, the productivity goes away. Tiago Splitter hasn’t played this season and Mike Muscala leads all frontcourt bench players with 8.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. The Hawks also rank 29th in the NBA shooting 32.6 percent from the three-point line. Motiejunas brings frontcourt depth with a three-point shot. Wes Wilcox needs to make a move to get the Hawks back into the playoffs.

Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks started the season with Dirk Nowitzki and Andrew Bogut starting in their frontcourt. Both are injured and the Mavericks are tied with the Philadelphia 76ers for the least amount of wins in the NBA and rank last in rebounds per game. Dorian Finney-Smith and Salah Mejri have been inserted into the starting lineup and both average less than six points and five rebounds per game. Donatas Motiejunas would start in Dallas. He won’t help them make it to the playoffs, but it gives them little hope in life after Nowitzki.

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat can stop offenses from scoring, but their offense can’t score. They rank in the bottom five in points per game and top five in opponents points per game. They also rank 25th in the NBA shooting 33.1 percent from from three. The Heat need to find better offensive talent around Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside. Donatas Motiejunas is an upgrade from Josh McRoberts. Motiejunas helps the Heat move forward into a new era.

New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans are desperate to surround Anthony Davis with talent. Davis is averaging 30.7 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.9 points per game on a team that’s 9-18. Jrue Holiday has been in-and-out of the lineup and Tyreke Evans just returned to action. Davis also has no help down low with Alexis Ajinca and Omer Asik having their worst season since 2012. The Pelicans miss Ryan Anderson floor-spacing ability. Donatas Motiejunas would improve the teams 32.9 percent disaster from behind the arc.
