Name: Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
School: Kansas University
Year: Senior
Height/Weight: 6’8, 195 lbs
Strengths:
Mykhailiuk plays the game with a natural feel. He makes high IQ plays and he knows where to be on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he’s a sure floor spacer. Mykhailiuk’s biggest draw is his smooth shooting rhythm. He shot 39.8 percent from three last season and 40 percent his sophomore year. He moves well without the ball, seems to make good decisions with the basketball when he does have it, and he makes the extra pass.
Mykhailiuk is capable of putting the ball on the floor and creating plays like these. His mechanics are sound and he has strong awareness on the floor.
Physically, Mykhailiuk doesn’t present any specific athletic advantages, but his 6’8 frame does make for a strength when considering his potential for the next level. At his size, being as mobile as a guard and a capable shooter is enough to get him on radars.
Weaknesses:
The biggest issue for Mykhailiuk thus far has been passivity. Last season he finished fourth on the team in scoring at 9.8 points in 27 minutes per game. He has deferred to other lead Jayhawks guards, including Frank Mason and Josh Jackson, who have now both moved on to the NBA. While he’s shown the ability to make plays on the move, Svi has yet to show the confidence to consistently beat people off the dribble when his space is crowded. Mykhailiuk doesn’t have much to show for athletically.
Future outlook:
Mykhailiuk was going to test his 2017 NBA Draft stock and then decided to return to KU for his senior year. This coming season gives him a chance to make himself more valuable to scouts. As a 6’8 wing who can shoot the ball and make plays, he can certainly make a mark, especially if he’s to become a more active contributor for Bill Self.
Draft Projection:
2018 2nd Round Pick
