Stuart Scott was the best. So were his catchphrases.

Cool as the other side of the pillow, can I get a witness from the congregation and ‘boo-yah,’ were used while he anchored ESPN’s SportsCenter while he gave the days greatest highlights at the World Wide Leader.

Apparently the ESPN broadcaster would say ‘boo-yah’ during his daughter’s, Sydni and Taelor Scott’s dance recitals and soccer games!

“That is something he did actually say at my soccer games and at dance recitals, where it was less appropriate to yell,” Stuart Scott’s daughter, Sydni Scott told me today on the Scoop B Radio Podcast.

In-game goals and tackles were accompanied by Scott’s ‘boo-yah’ co-sign.

“Anything, pretty much,” said Sydni Scott.

“And then dance recitals, my sister and I both danced and the good news is that he usually refrained from shouting until after the number was finished. So he didn’t interrupt; he did hold back enough.”

Stuart Scott died after complications from cancer on January 4, 2015.  Before his death, Scott accepted the Jimmy V Perseverance  Award at the ESPY Awards in 2015.

He spoke about his fight with cancer and emphasized that it was his two daughters, Taelor and Sydni, that kept him fighting:

“Taelor and Sydni, I love you guys more than I will ever be able to express. You two are my heartbeat. I am standing on this stage here tonight because of you.”

Sydni says that one of the coolest things about the ‘boo-yah’ catchphrase is that it really and truly transcended television.

“We had this tradition when my sister and I were young that when we would go and have our bows at the end of the show, he would throw our flowers on the stage in front of us and yell at the end,” she said.

“So, that was something. That’s why boo-yah was so special because I have all of these really poignant memories of him that are sort of attached to that.”
