Steve Kerr Still In Favor Of Bringing Iguodala Off The Bench

With new signee Shaun Livingston out for the start of the season while recovering from toe surgery, new Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr mentioned his desire to possibly bring forward Andre Iguodala off the bench as a temporary back up point guard for Steph Curry. This would circumstantially move Harrison Barnes into the starting line up at small forward, a questionable role given that Barnes is still developing his confidence.

But Kerr is apparently still leaning towards the idea of using Iguodala as a sixth man, per Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News Group:

I could make an argument he’s been our best player, especially over the last two weeks. Right now in the scrimmages, he’s the most impactful player that we have. The last couple of weeks, he has sort of determined who’s winning (the scrimmage) depending on what side he’s on.

So from that standpoint, you could call me an idiot. If he’s my best player and I’m not starting him, maybe I’m the one who’s wrong… The argument is absolutely there.

It doesn’t sound idiotic to try some new things with this team. Iguodala can certainly play the supplementary point forward role until Golden State can have Shaun Livingston healthy. The Warriors recently acquired Leandro Barbosa as well, who can be a spark but won’t run your offense with as much discipline as Iguodala.

It’s a fair experiment for Kerr who has another capable swing forward in Draymond Green for his rotation. Getting Livingston back can help the Warriors develop more of a consistent balance on both sides of the basketball.

If Iguodala stays and thrives in this role, perhaps he could be considered for sixth man award honors.
