Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant notched records on the court and in the checkbooks on Wednesday night, as he became the oldest player in NBA history to score 60 points in a game, and set a single-day record for sales as the Lakers’ home venue the Staples Center moved $1.2 million worth of Bryant merchandise in his finale according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com

On Wednesday alone, the Staples Center sold $1.2 million worth of Kobe merchandise, Sean Ryan, AEG vice president of merchandise told ESPN. Ryan said that’s a single-day sales record for any arena in the world.

The previous record, Ryan said, was set by Led Zeppelin, who sold $1 million worth of merchandise in London at the O2 Arena on Dec. 10, 2007, the group’s first full-length concert in three decades.

Rovell also reports that the average fan that was lucky enough to venture inside of the Staples Center for Bryant’s encore spent $61 on merch, with the average bill reaching $230.

Some of the items being sold inside of Staples on Wednesday included eight $38K hats made of out of snake and lamb skin, eight $24K hats made out of cashmere and encrusted in diamonds and 24 leather jackets which retailed for $5K, all apart of the high-end “24 Collection” to commemorate Bryant’s career.

Bryant’s response to the fans’ unwavering support was jovial.

“It says that fans are really appreciative of this moment and wanted to maybe have something they can remember.”

Including online sales, the Lakers sold $2 million worth of Bryant paraphernalia between Wednesday and Thursday. That’s a hell of a parting gift from the five-time NBA champion if you ask me.
