The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Chicago Bulls Monday night by a final score of 108-107 to improve to 10-10 on the season. Spurs power forward LaMarcus Aldridge scored 20 points, improving San Antonio’s record to 9-0 when Aldridge scores more than 20 points in a game this season.

LaMarcus Aldridge entered Monday averaging 17.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the field. The Spurs’ offense primarily runs through Aldridge and shooting guard DeMar DeRozan now that Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are gone. If those two All-Stars are struggling from the field, it’s going to be very hard for the Spurs to win games this season in the rugged Western Conference.

San Antonio entered Monday averaging 109.7 points per game, which is 17th in the NBA. They are also 25th in the league in pace of play. Pace factor is an estimate of the number of possessions per 48 minutes by a team. The Spurs basically have to score on every possession if they want to compete in the Western Conference and LaMarcus Aldridge has to shoulder a lot of that load on the offensive end.

Aldridge averaged 23.1 points per game last season. He’s going to have to come close to that average this season if the Spurs want to make the playoffs.
