Sources: Kings, Nets working on a deal for Deron Williams
The Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings are in talks about a deal that would send Deron Williams to Sacramento, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. No deal is imminent, but discussions are brewing about a package trade deal that would send Darren Collison, Derrick Williams, and Jason Thompson to Brooklyn in exchange for Deron Williams.
Woj says Sacramento has “significant interest” in Williams, but would also like to see Mason Plumlee included in the deal. Brooklyn is more reluctant to include Plumlee, assumably with the fragility of center Brook Lopez.
The Deron Williams era in Brooklyn has been pretty fragile itself in a few areas. Recently the Nets formally put their three best players on the trading block. Williams, 30, has two years and over $43 million left on his contract. The Nets and GM Billy King seem set on clearing house of their hefty contract players, like Williams, and the Sacramento Kings are the current bidder.
Sacramento has had at least a noticeable start to the season. They gained early attention with their play behind inspired play from center DeMarcus Cousins and have taken a dip as of late in his absence. The Kings just fired their head coach Mike Malone. Their interim coach, Ty Corbin, has rapport with Deron Williams from their time in Utah. Darren Collison has been a stable hand at point guard for the Kings, but Williams’ improvements this year after last season’s poor outing might have Sacramento more confident in his ability to lead them towards a more legitimate standing.
