Divac and management are leading a mess in Sacramento

Things have consistently been a mess in Sacramento over the past year and just when you thought the storm quieted and the dust settled, the  wind just picks right back up again. There have been numerous rumors of trade speculations that involved Rudy Gay with other teams, some as early as January 2016 and although none of those trades have gone through, it has caused some frustration in the heart of Gay.

You mentioned people are wondering if you are going to be here next season. I imagine you are like most of the guys in the league and try not to pay attention to that stuff, but do you pay attention to trade rumors and does it bother you?

I mean it’s been pretty loud as of late so it’s hard not to pay attention to it. I think it just goes to, I don’t know, I think there’s always ways to do things and in this situation I don’t think it’s going about the right way. No matter what your intentions to do with your players, I would think the first thing you want to do is make sure people are happy with what you are doing. That hasn’t been the case.

So you haven’t had much communication with the franchise as far as your future?

No, I haven’t. I’ve had communication, but not the kind of communication that I would say I like.

Now a ten-year veteran who has played for three different teams, Gay understands that this is a business and anything can happen at anytime. With that being said, there’s still a level of communication that you expect from an organization and when that’s not being displayed, the level of frustration is warranted.

But this song and dance is nothing that should be a shock to us. Just last season we saw the debacle that involved George Karl, DeMarcus Cousins, and Sacramento Kings’ management. Cousins has been constantly questioning their judgement, so much that even during the 2016 NBA Draft, he was sending out sub-tweets questioning their draft decisions.

DeMarcus Cousins is their star player who which they don’t even communicate and strategize with so why should Rudy Gay expect a call back?

Well Vlade Divac made that very evident with a few comments he made recently, which pretty much made the situation worse:

“He has my number,” Divac told CSN California. “If I do something, I will call him. Obviously, if I didn’t call him, we didn’t do anything.”

I’m not sure what Vlade Divac was thinking but comments like this is the reason why Rudy Gay said what he said and why Cousins is sub-tweeting and sending shots their way constantly. Divac could’ve made this entire situation much better but his ego got in the way. A little communication is all that is being asked but Divac and the rest of their staff are blatantly ignoring that request due to their stubbornness.

With this logic, I don’t expect the Sacramento Kings to be good anytime soon. Players are not going to want to play there and those that are there, may leave the first chance they get. If you want to be successful, you have to be able to communicate and that’s in any type of business. Where there’s no communication, there’s no teamwork. This team is a mess and a lot of that has to do with their management.
