Rumor: Rockets could be targeting Al Harrington

The Rockets have started the season at a strong 11-3, even without Dwight Howard’s services for the last three games. Houston added a little more veteran-ship to their roster by bringing in Jason Terry and Trevor Ariza this summer, and according to Baller Insiders’ Yannis Koutroupis, another veteran could be on their radar:

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Houston Rockets are considering signing 16-year veteran forward Al Harrington, who was recently cut in China in order to allow him to pursue a NBA return. Harrington played 34 games for the Washington Wizards last season, averaging 6.6 points and 2.2 rebounds. With great experience and versatility, he could be an ideal fit on the Rockets’ frontline as they await Terrence Jones’ return from a nerve issue in his left leg.

Houston has been making do with Donatas Motiejunas and Kostas Papanikolaou in that four-spot while Terrence Jones has been hurt. The Rockets’ four-out, small-ball formula works well with those two because they provide spacing by being able to knock down the three. Al Harrington is the same way. Having a veteran of Harrington’s particular skill can be valuable for Houston’s overall depth and in the long run if one of the aforementioned options takes a dip in production.
