Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports reports that former Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo has agreed to a one year contract with the Sacramento Kings. Remember that the signing is not official until July 10th.

Rondo, 29, has probably came off his worse season in the league. After being traded to Dallas from Boston in the beginning of the season, things turned for him quickly. He had dealt with injuring and then had clashes with Coach Rick Carlisle which ultimately led to his benching in the playoffs (the team said he had a “back injury”). In a split season with both clubs, Rondo averaged 8.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 7.9 assists. This is a great signing for Sacramento. Rondo is still a great point guard able to find the open man and cut off passing lanes easily which causes nightmares to opposing guards.

This whole offseason has been bizarre for the Kings. First Coach George Karl wanted to trade away DeMarcus Cousins, then Owner Vivek Ranadive was thinking about firing Karl four months after hiring him. This caused friction with the franchise leading to some free agents like Wesley Matthews and Monta Ellis to turn down offers from them despite the Kings giving them the most money that any other team did.

Now with Rondo coming off a disastrous season he looks to prove that the previous season was just a fluke and he can still perform in this league. If he can perform well this year he’ll have an opportunity to get a pay raise with the Kings or another team but for now Rajon Rondo, Rudy Gay & DeMarcus Cousins does not seem like a bad big three in my opinion. Add those guys and role players Darren Collison, Ben McLemore, Marco Belinelli and recent draftee Willy Cauley-Stein this team looks to make some serious noise in the Western Conference.
