i-1Pelicans guard Eric Gordon suffered a separated shoulder on Saturday.

Unfortunately for the last few years, Eric Gordon and the word “injury” have been synonymous. Over the last three seasons (plus New Orleans’ twelve games this year,) Gordon has played in only 127 out of a possible 242 games. Just when it looked as if Gordon was about to break out of his ugly early-season shooting slump, the injury bug sank its teeth into the 25-year-old yet again.

Gordon suffered a separated shoulder during the second quarter of the Pelicans win over the Utah Jazz on Saturday night, and he is out indefinitely. Gordon sustained the injury after colliding with Jazz guard Trey Burke. The Pelicans issued a press release on Saturday, and are calling Gordon’s ailment a left shoulder subluxation.

With 4:35 remaining in the second quarter Saturday, New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon’s arms got tangled up with Alec Burks while Gordon was defending Burks, resulting in a left shoulder subluxation (separate shoulder). Gordon headed to the locker room and will not return to Saturday’s game. Although initially it appeared as though Gordon may have been hurt as it fell near the sideline and into the EnergySolutions Arena stands, the contact took place on the wing as Gordon and Burks locked up with each other.

Fletcher Mackel of NBC New Orleans tweeted out an image of Gordon in a sling at a Pelicans charity event on Sunday afternoon.

In the Pelicans first 7 games this year, Gordon had shot an abysmal 16-of-58 from the field. He was starting to rediscover his touch, shooting 24-of-42 in New Orleans’ last five games.

Gordon is averaging 9.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this season for the Pelicans.
