With a mediocre roster and a surprising record of 6-8, the Indiana Pacers have been awaiting the return of veteran power forward David West.

West has been sidelined by an ankle injury that he suffered in the preseason, but it looks as if the former Xavier Musketeer will make his season debut this upcoming Friday against the Orlando Magic.

West spoke to Candace Buckner of the Indianapolis Star on Tuesday regarding his playing status:

“I’ll see what he (Pacers head coach Frank Vogel,) says. I feel good. This last week has been good. No setbacks. The ankle is healthy which is important.” …“We’ve exhausted all options in terms of getting it healthy. It was a bad sprain,” West said. “I got really lucky that it just did what it did and didn’t go any further. I got really lucky.”

Currently the Pacers are eighth in the Eastern Conference, and with the addition of West, the chance of a playoff return seems more likely.

West averaged 14 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the Pacers last year.
