Phil Jackson and the rest of the New York Knicks management pulled off a great trade yesterday, acquiring Derrick Rose and other assets from the Chicago Bulls for Robin Lopez, Jerian Grant and Jose Calderon.

This a very safe trade for the Knicks but a trade that I see as a come up. There’s no risk here for either team being that the Bulls wanted to move on from Derrick Rose and being that he becomes a free agent next season, the Knicks have nothing to lose in this situation. They gave up nothing to acquire a former MVP who has more than enough potential to do something special in New York.

I love this trade for the Knicks simply for those reasons alone but somehow someway, I’ve been seeing and hearing that a lot of New York Knicks fan are disgruntled about the trade for Rose…

HOW!?!?

I understand that Rose has battled injuries ever since tearing his ACL back in the 2012 playoffs but Derrick Rose at 50% of what he once was is still better than any point guard that the Knicks have had in the past few years.

The New York Knicks haven’t had an All-Star point guard since Mark Jackson back in 1989 and they haven’t made the playoffs since 2013 but yet fans have the audacity to complain about this trade. That mindset is mind-boggling to me. You would think Knicks fans would be excited and looking forward to the upcoming season after this move. I understand that Rose’s injuries and risk of injuries make you cringe and his numbers are down but he’s STILL BETTER THAN ANYTHING YOU’VE HAD in previous years. Below is a list of the point guards that the Knicks have had in the past 10 seasons. The only player that’s arguable is Stephon Marbury because that guy was a savage. Chauncey Billups may stick out to you but let’s not forget, that was Billups at the end of his career. So still–Rose is the best thing the Knicks have seen at the point guard position in quite some time.

This is an upgrade for New York at 0 risk because he’s a free agent next season. And for all we know, this exact change of scenery can be an eye opener for Derrick Rose and he can come out an have a big season. I bet New York fans would be cheering then and would have no signs of complaint. But this is nothing new because just last year, when their now beloved power forward, Kristaps Porzingis was drafted, he was booed nonstop but that shifted quickly and now they can’t get enough. Regardless of how these outraged fans feel, I love the move by Phil Jackson and I’m looking forward to seeing how this mesh works out on the basketball court.
