Acheiving the number one seed in the Eastern Conference for the first time since 1994, the Atlanta Hawks held off a determined Brooklyn Nets team that never gave up. Kyle Korver lead the Hawks with 21 points on five three pointers.

The dogfight had it highs and lows, with Atlanta holding a lead as high as 16 to Brooklyn cutting the deficit to a single bucket. Jeff Teague hit a float with around a minute left that seemed to be the dagger in the heart for the Nets.

Teague and DeMarre Carroll both added 17 point efforts for the Hawks.

For Brooklyn, they got their best efforts out of Joe Johnson and Brooke Lopez who both added 17 points. They came into this game with nothing to lose and they almost came out victorious despite some late turnovers.

This was some of the biggest competition that Atlanta has had to face in over a month because of the long winning streak they had. Atlanta looked well rested as they seemed to have control the entire game. A huge key to their success was free throw shooting as they went 21 of 22 for 95%. As stated before, every time the Hawks seemed like they were going to pull away, the Nets answered. This can be looked at positively for the Nets as they lost all four meeting with Atlanta by an average of 17 plus points.

There is some other good things trending for the Nets even after tonight’s loss.

Lastly, the Hawks only worry was a poor 6 point performance from All-Star forward Paul Millsap.

Game 2 is Wednesday night in Atlanta. Should be a fun stretch as the playoffs are just getting started
