According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the NBA has fined New York Knicks president an undisclosed amount of cash for his public comments on Ohio State guard D’Angelo Russell, who is expected to go within the top five of this year’s NBA Draft.

Jackson attended OSU’s 81-57 win over Nebraska last Thursday, and told Cleveland.com after the contest that Russell is “a great looking kid,” and “a great prospect.”

The NBA prohibits any team officials from making public comments on collegiate underclassmen, as they believe certain comments could urge NBA-hopeful student athletes to leave school early in hopes of making a splash in the pros. Wojnarowski reports that Jackson’s peers accredit the blunder to his inexperience as a front office exec.

Russell, a freshman at Ohio State, is currently projected by ESPN.com’s Chad Ford to go fourth overall in this years draft. He is believed to be the best point guard in this draft class.
