The NBA 2K gods have spoken…

With the NBA Playoffs about to start and majority of basketball fans love the NBA 2K series I decided to do a simulation of the 2017 NBA Playoffs on the virtual hardwood, courtesy of NBA 2K17 on the Xbox One platform

What I did was that I started the playoffs mode and adjusted the seeds according to what the seedings are in real life. From there without playing a single matchup I simulated the entire postseason and came out with a winner and a Finals MVP. The only thing I adjusted was that I turned the real-life injuries on, like Jabari Parker’s ACL injury, for example, is factored into the game so it can somewhat as accurate as possible. Let’s take a look at the matchups.

Eastern Conference first round

  • (1) Boston Celtics vs. (8) Chicago Bulls: CHI wins 4-1
  • (4) Washington Wizards vs. (5) Atlanta Hawks: WAS wins 4-2
  • (3) Toronto Raptors vs. (6) Milwaukee Bucks: MIL wins 4-2
  • (2) Cleveland Cavaliers vs. (7) Indiana Pacers: IND wins 4-1

Right away you see not one, or two…but THREE upsets in the first round. Now, who expected that? Now, who knows if this could happen in real life but hey, it gets you thinking.

Can Paul George, Jeff Teague, C.J. Miles, Lance Stephenson and Monta Ellis score big against the Cavaliers?

Western Conference first round

  • (1) Golden State Warriors vs. (8) Portland Trail Blazers: GS wins 4-0
  • (4) Los Angeles Clippers vs. (5) Utah Jazz: LAC wins 4-3
  • (3) Houston Rockets vs. (6) Oklahoma City Thunder: HOU wins 4-1
  • (2) San Antonio Spurs vs. (7) Memphis Grizzlies: SA wins 4-1

Compared to the wacky Eastern Conference results so far, these are pretty realistic as Golden State, Houston and San Antonio handled their opponents easily. Keep an eye on that Clippers and Jazz series, as this could eventually happen also.

Conference semi-finals

  • EAST: (4) Washington Wizards vs. (8) Chicago Bulls: CHI wins 4-1
  • EAST: (6) Milwaukee Bucks vs. (7) Indiana Pacers: MIL wins 4-3
  • WEST: (1) Golden State Warriors vs. (4) Los Angeles Clippers: GS wins 4-2
  • WEST: (2) San Antonio Spurs vs. (3) Houston Rockets: HOU wins 4-0

The East simulation just keeps getting stranger. No Cleveland or Boston as most would expect, but a SIXTH and EIGHTH seed represent the 2K17 Finals. The West pretty much stays what everyone expects as James Harden and the Rockets take on Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.

A lot of interesting scenarios here in this simulation.

Conference Finals

  • Eastern Conference Finals: (6) Milwaukee Bucks vs. (8) Chicago Bulls: MIL wins 4-3
  • Western Conference Finals: (1) Golden State Warriors vs. (3) Houston Rockets: GS wins 4-3

In the Conference Finals simulation, the Greek Freak is just as dominate in the game as he is on the court. He has single handily lead this Milwaukee Bucks team to the Finals and will face the powerhouse Golden State Warriors

NBA 2K17 Finals Matchup

  • Game 1: Milwaukee Bucks – 98, Golden State Warriors – 119
  • Game 2: Milwaukee Bucks – 112, Golden State Warriors – 96
  • Game 3: Golden State Warriors – 105, Milwaukee Bucks – 108
  • Game 4: Golden State Warriors – 112, Milwaukee Bucks – 108
  • Game 5: Milwaukee Bucks – 94, Golden State Warriors – 111
  • Game 6: Golden State Warriors – 120, Milwaukee Bucks 97 (GS wins the Finals 4-2)

And there you have it. After an incredible run by the Milwaukee Bucks in this simulation, the Golden State Warriors come out as Champions of the Basketball Society NBA 2K17 Playoffs Simulation. Milwaukee was able to take two games early in the series, but the star power of the Warriors were able to come out on top. Stephen Curry was named the 2017 Finals MVP averaging 29.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.7 while shooting 54.1% (45% from three) in the six NBA Finals games.

Can Stephen Curry bounce back in this year’s playoffs?

Here is the box score for both teams in Game 6.

Game 6 might have been a blowout, but give credit to Milwaukee for making it this far.

Here is a look at the leaderboards of the playoff simulation, most of these guys will most likely on the leaderboard when the playoffs end.

No surprise here as Westbrook is the playoff scoring leader
